Melissa Auf der Maur joined the Pumpkins in December of 1999, after D'Arcy left in September. Melissa played on the "Resume the Pose" tour of early 2000, and continued touring in support of "Machina: the Machines of God" until the band broke up at the end of 2000.
Melissa and Billy had known each other for a long time - apparently one of her friends threw a beer bottle at Billy during a show in Montreal, and Melissa went to apologize after the show. Melissa's band Tinker was an opener for the Pumpkins in 1993, and Billy introduced Melissa to Courtney Love in 1994 when Hole needed a bassist after Kristen Pfaff died. Both Melissa and Billy appeared on Ric Ocasek's (of The Cars) solo album in 1997.
Some of Melissa's interests include photography, fashion, and music. Since her time with the Pumpkins, she has released her own solo work, fronted a Black Sabbath cover band, and played with Zwan member Paz Lenchantin.
